Amature Radio Field Day at Legacy Park, June 24 to June 26

Posted on Jun 14 2016 - 2:34pm

Over the weekend of June 24 through 26 the Granite State Amature Radio Association will be holding the AARL Field Day Operation at Legacy Park in Bedford. You might ask what that has to do with you.  I need both Youth and Adults help with this. In a nut shell what this event is all about is an international exercise where a group of amateur radio operators (ham radio) set up a command post of sorts make as many contacts as possible within a designated 24 hour period. The tricky part is that they have to start from "ground zero"! In other words no electricity. Any power used to run their equipment must be generated by themselves. The youth help is needed mostly on Friday to help set up the antennas and the rest of the infrastructure. On Saturday they my need some help but not all that much. But you can take advantage of these knowledgeable people to get your radio merit badge well in the road to completion. Even though you are not licensed you will have the opportunity to make radio contacts (a MB requirement) through the use of a special system set up just for that purpose. On Saturday we will be providing dinner for the participants, here is where I need the Adult help. This is a Win / Win for both of organizations. We can provide service while having fun. Please contact me st gsenn@comcast.net if you are interested in taking part of this event and I will get you the details. BTW if you have other scouting friends who would be interested, the door is open to them as well. At the very least stop by and check it out.

Jack McCahill will be conducting a flag pickup day as a part of his Eagle Scout Project on Sunday, June 12. He is in need of one adult leader to drive as well as three scouts to assist in collecting worn American flags throughout the town of Bedford. The amount of flags to be picked up will depend on the demand from the town, but expect the event to take anywhere from 1-2 hours. Please email jackmccahill@gmail.com if you are able to help out. Anyone who can help will meet at Jack's house (11 Settlers Court in Bedford) at 2 pm on Sunday-Read more

Jack McCahill will be holding a bake sale for his Eagle Scout Project (American flag repository) at Harvest Market in Bedford this Saturday, June 4 from 12 pm - 2 pm. He is looking for 3 volunteers to help him for those two hours and would also greatly appreciate the donation of any baked goods, so long as the recipes are included for allergy purposes. Please bring any donated goods to either the meeting on Thursday or to Harvest Market on Saturday just before 12. Thank you.

Thanks a lot,

Jack McCahill
